About the Program
|
Michael Kroth, assistant professor of bassoon, teaching a bassoon studio class. |
The Woodwind Area at the Michigan State University College of Music
recruits the highest caliber musicians, providing an atmosphere where
students benefit from individualized attention to ensure optimal preparation
for the professional world and job success. The faculty is performance-oriented,
and includes a full-time member for each woodwind instrument. In addition,
it is close-knit, with similar teaching philosophies.
- Courses are conducted primarily through private lessons.
- Each studio has its own studio class - a performance forum with discussion on various topics ranging from style and periods of music, to reed making.
- Students can double major, and the university makes every effort to enable students to design their own curriculum.
- Students have diverse opportunities for chamber music and solo performance.
- There are
approximately 100 woodwind majors.
