Ensembles: Opera

Each season, MSU Opera Theatre presents two fully staged and costumed productions accompanied by a College of Music orchestral ensemble as well as chamber operas and special events, featuring faculty and students from the vocal arts area. This year's productions include: Cinderella and Candide.

Fall Semester: The Marriage of Figaro
Location: Fairchild Theatre

Fri., Nov. 21, 8 p.m.      Sat., Nov. 22, 8 p.m.      Sun., Nov. 23, 3 p.m.

MSU Opera Theatre and Chamber Orchestra
Raphael Jimenez, conductor; Melanie Helton, stage director

Description: Mozart's comic masterpiece with libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte, based upon the French classic play by Beaumarchais. Sung in Italian with English surtitles.


Spring semester: Gianni Schicchi and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Location: MSU Concert Auditorium

Fri., Mar. 27, 8 p.m.      Sat., Mar. 28, 8 p.m.      Sun., Mar. 29, 3 p.m.

MSU Opera Theatre and Symphony Orchestra
Raphael Jimenez, conductor, Melanie Helton, stage director

Description: Two operas for the price of one: Puccini's comic romp Gianni Schicchi, based upon a single line from Dante's Inferno, and the world premiere of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, music by William Withem, libretto by Melanie Helton, based upon Washington Irving's story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman.

A preview lecture will be held 45 minutes before each performance. Reserved seating only.

Special admission charges: $18, $16 for senior citizens, and $8 for students and those under age 18. Tickets available from Wharton Center Box Office only, (517) 432-2000, (800) WHARTON.
