Fifth House Ensemble at MusicTown Detroit

Friday, Nov. 17, 7:00 PM

On November 17th, members of Chicago's Fifth House Ensemble come to MusicTown Detroit for an evening of adventurous trios that explore how American composers have captured the wildly diverse sound world of the music of our time.

Fifth House’s innovative and energetic approach to new music will be on full display in their MusicTown Detroit performance, intended to bring together the local community, MSU Community Music School-Detroit students and Michigan State University (MSU). The performance will feature three pieces that explore the contemporary music of American composers for violin, cello, and piano. Audience members will hear each composer’s unique aural landscape, rich with inspirations of film noir, jazz, pop, and folk songs.

Hailing from Chicago, the members of Fifth House are known for their dramatic interpretation and creative energy. Their creative projects have included everything from graphic novelists to live interactive performances of the video game, Journey.

The group will have a Q+A session after the concert to talk about what it’s like to make music with graphic novelists, storytellers, video game designers, and making a life in music.

Tickets can be reserved online and will be available at will call at MusicTown prior to the 7:00 PM concert.

This presentation is supported by the Arts MidwestTouring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from MCACA and the Crane Group. Questions about the concert should be directed to Christine Beamer, beamerch@msu.edu.
