Nathan Kruse, a doctoral candidate in music education and conducting, presented the paper “Seeing the Entire Picture: Interpretations of a Conducting Philosophy” at the International Symposium on the Philosophy of Music Education at the University of Hamburg (Germany). He performed with the MSU Graduate Trumpet Ensemble at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Bangkok (Thailand).
Geoffrey Larson, an undergraduate in clarinet performance, received the Distinguished Performer Award at the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival in Seattle.

She received the Benno Lee Award from City University of New York, performed at Steinway Hall and Lang Recital Hall in New York City, and was invited to perform a lecture recital at a Tokyo public high school benefit event.
Michael Norman, a doctoral candidate in music education, presented “Intonation: The Heart of Developing Musicianship” and “Composers on Composing” and coordinated the panel sessions “Commissioning New Music, How To Do It” at the 2005 Michigan Music Education Conference. He wrote the article “Music Learning Theory in the Secondary School,” which appeared in Readings in Music Learning Theory.
