The public is invited to attend the MSU Community Music School (CMS) open house on Sunday, Jan. 20, 3-5 p.m., and learn more about the classes and lessons offered to students of all ages ­– birth through adulthood. CMS recently moved to 4930 S. Hagadorn Road. The open house offers a chance for the public to see the new space.

The open house will include early childhood music demonstrations at 3:15 p.m. and 4 p.m., a beginning strings demonstration 3:45 p.m., and other class demonstrations. Throughout the open house, there will be walk-in music therapy sessions and an instrument petting zoo, which will give those in attendance the opportunity to try various instruments. 

“The Community Music School has something for everyone and the open house is a great time to check out CMS programming,” said Jaime DeMott, CMS director. “We offer programs for adults, teens, and children with all levels of musical experience and with all levels of ability, including people with special needs.” 

Students may enroll for classes or lessons during the open house. CMS offerings include private and group lessons, adult and children’s choirs, early childhood music, folk music, music therapy, New Horizons Band, rock music, beat making, string ensemble, and Suzuki strings, piano, flute and harp. 

CMS is located at 4930 S. Hagadorn Road in East Lansing and is the outreach division of the MSU College of Music. The mission of CMS is to provide comprehensive music education – quality instruction, related music services, and educational programs – for interested individuals of all ages and levels with financial assistance for those in need.
