One of the most performed operas in the world today, Donizetti’s romp tells the story of Nemorino, a poor bumpkin who loves the wealthy and imperious Adina. When Adina is courted by the puffed-up Sergeant Belcore, Nemorino goes in search of a love potion. Armed with liquid courage, he suddenly becomes popular and Adina realizes she actually does love him. Featuring the world famous tenor aria “Una furtiva lagrima” and a host of other great melodies, this opera will be sung in Italian with English surtitles.

Often described as “the perfect opera,” this combination of Mozart’s sublime music and Lorenzo daPonte’s sparkling adaptation of the Beaumarchais play has delighted audiences for more than 230 years. This enduring tale of class differences and privilege is particularly relevant today in the era of the “one percent.”
