Student Recital Timeline

Policies for All Student Recitals
  1. Recitals may be scheduled in the Music Auditorium or Hart Recital Hall (or in some instances, Room 103 Music Practice Building). Student recital dates must be submitted with the approval of the appropriate faculty instructor. Once scheduled, required graduate recital dates will not be changed without permission from the major professor and the Graduate Associate Director. Anyone canceling a recital may not be allowed to reschedule until the following semester after all other priorities have been addressed. Graduate required recital cancellations must follow guidelines of the Graduate Committee..
  2. Recitals may be scheduled Monday through Friday at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at noon, 2, 4, 6 and 8 p.m.  NOTE: All required/graded graduate recitals must be professionally recorded. Contact Recording Services (226 MB) as soon as you have your room confirmed.
  3. The Green Room, Room 110 Music Building, is available ½ hour before your recital for warm-up purposes. Check out a key with a $5 deposit from the main office. The room may need to be shared by more than one person.

 
Timeline
Description
1. Authorization Submit a signed Student Recital Scheduling Contract to Room 253 Music Building.
2. Confirmation will be sent 2-3 days after receipt of your Student Recital Scheduling Contract. You will be notified by e-mail of the location, date and time of your recital. If you do not receive confirmation within one week of submitting your contract, please call (517) 432-8344.
3. Rehearsal times and dates must be within one month of the recital. Schedule rehearsal times after you have passed your pre-recital hearing (graduate only) Required doctoral recitals my reserve the performance venue for five hours; required masters recitals may reserve the venue for three hours; all other recitals may reserve the venue for two hours. Schedule these in person in Room 253 Music Building.
4. Recital programs must be submitted two weeks prior to your recital date.* A final copy must be proofread and signed by your instructor one week before your recital. Complete a Recital Program Form and submit it to the main office no later than two weeks prior to your recital date. Two or three days after the form has been received by the main office, a copy will be available for proofreading. Please return the corrected copy, signed by your instructor, one week before your recital. Copies (55) will be printed and available for pickup the day before your recital. The office will display a copy for you.
5. Keys are available for checkout (both room and piano, if needed) from Room 102 MB Monday-Friday 8am-12n and 1-5pm. For recitals and rehearsal during regular office hours, staff will unlock doors and equipment. For recitals and rehearsals scheduled on weekends and after 5pm, check out a key from the main office. A $20 deposit is required to check out keys. To claim your deposit, please return the keys within two days following your rehearsal or recital.
6. If you are using College of Music recording services, submit your program to Recording Services two weeks before your recital.** E-mail recording services at recserv@msu.edu, or submit in person a copy of your program that includes timings for each selection. Submit a Recording Request Form available in Room 226 MB. Be sure to review the Recital Recording Policy available online and in Room 226 MB.
7. To make special arrangements to use a harpsichord or additional piano See the piano technicians in Room 315 MBP or 97 MB to make a special request for piano or harpsichord. Refer to the Piano Use Policy available from the piano technicians, posted in the performance halls, and online.
8. Clean-up following your performance Please be sure to put the furniture and equipment back in their proper places. Cover and lock the instruments. Clean the reception room and dispose of all trash in the courtyard dumpster. Return keys within two business days to the main office.

*NOTE: NASM policy requires that program for all recitals be kept on file. If your program is not produced by the College of Music, please take a copy of your program to the main office.

**All graduate recitals must have a professional quality recording made.
