Areas of Study

College of Music students can choose from a wide range of areas of study, including brass and percussion, composition, conducting, jazz studies, piano, music education, musicology/ethnomusicology, music theory, strings, vocal arts, and woodwinds.

The College of Music offers the following programs:

  • Undergraduate degrees (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music): music composition, jazz studies, music education, and music performance (percussion, piano, strings, voice, winds)

  • Master’s degrees (Master of Arts and Master of Music): collaborative piano, music composition, conducting (wind, choral, and orchestral), jazz studies, music education, music performance (brass, percussion, piano, strings, voice, and woodwinds), music theory, musicology, and piano pedagogy

  • Doctoral degrees (Doctor of Musical Arts and Doctor of Philosophy): composition, conducting (winds, choral, and orchestral), music education, and music performance (percussion, piano, strings, voice, brass, and woodwinds)

  • The Performance Diploma Program: an intensive four-semester (two-year) course of study for musicians who have already achieved a high level of performance and who wish to focus on developing their performing skills through further study with a master teacher without enrolling in a degree program.
