What Our Students Say

Music Education AreaElizabeth Hoard
"I graduated from Grand Ledge High School and am currently a junior double majoring in music education and vocal performance at Michigan State University. I have performed with State Singers, Women’s Chamber Ensemble, and I am currently a member of the University Chorale. I hope to be an opera star and a star teacher someday." What Elizabeth loves about MSU: "From attending the many concerts and recitals offered almost every night to continuing my musical study abroad, my experience thus far has been fulfilling and exciting."

Music Education AreaEric LaNoue
"I am from Grand Haven, Michigan, on the shores of Lake Michigan. While I have continued to play my guitar, I have primarily studied trombone in my time here. I have worked my way through all of the bands and orchestras at MSU, as well as playing in Salsa Verde, the MSU salsa band. I have also had many fantastic opportunities here, including being a member of the Honors College, teaching private students, composing and songwriting, and working as an intern at the Community Music School." What Eric loves about MSU: "Being a member of the College of Music at MSU has afforded me the opportunity to be a part of such a huge college community and yet never be lost in the crowd."

Music Education AreaJoshua Sholler
"I play the trombone and while attending MSU, I have been a member of the Concert Band, the Spartan Marching Band, Philharmonic Orchestra, the Senior Trombone Quartet, the MSU Trombone Choir, the Symphony Band, and the Wind Symphony. I have been a member of the local chapter of the Music Educators National Conference and held a number of offices within MSU's chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the nation’s largest and oldest men’s music fraternity." What Joshua loves about MSU: "I am surrounded by professors who are leaders in their field, a campus that is uniquely beautiful, and future colleagues that will be shaping the future of music education. GO GREEN!"

Music Education AreaKim Wren
"I'm a music education (double bass) major from Atlanta. At MSU, I have been involved in the MSU Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, jazz combos, and Women's Chamber Ensemble. I'm currently serving as president of MSU's chapter of the National Association of Music Education." What Kim loves about MSU: "The faculty here always blow my mind. I love getting to work with some of the top performers, researchers, and educators in music today."

Music Education AreaMichael Wright
"I grew up in here in Lansing and went to school in Grand Ledge. While at Michigan State I've played in the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, various chamber groups, several operas, and solo horn recitals. I have also recently developed a keen interest in elementary and early childhood music and the process of how children learn music, leading me to choose a split placement in elementary general music and middle school band for my student teaching next semester." What Michael loves about MSU: "The top two things I've really loved and grown from at Michigan State are the incredible and diverse musical experiences I've had with ensembles and chamber groups, and the world-class music education faculty who have inspired my thinking on teaching music beyond what I ever thought it could be."
