College of Music Health Resources

Health and wellness resources are provided by the College of Music throughout the year. Below, you will find resources available year-round, as well as special events on health and wellness topics.

Year Round Resources

Earplugs: The College of Music Dean’s Office (Music Building Room 105) provides complementary foam earplugs and sells musician earplugs for $14 (exact cash or personal check only).

Pain Management Supplies: The College of Music Dean’s Office (MB105) stocks a variety of health supplies that are free to students in need of emergency pain management: cold packs, Thermacare/heat packs, and painkiller (ibuprofen+tylenol). The office is open 8 AM-5 PM.

Health and Wellness Steering Committee: If you are experiencing a health and wellness challenge or have an idea for a health and wellness program or project you would like to see, please contact a member of the Health and Wellness Steering Committee.

College of Music Embedded Counselor: MSU CAPS embedded counselor Christian Gibson is available on Thursdays and Fridays at the College of Music and provides mental health workshops and resources for the College of Music.

2023-24 Initiatives

Health and Wellness Resource Fair: The College of Music hosts a fall wellness fair in the Billman Music Pavilion lobby each August. Visit the lobby to pick up resources for your health, learn about campus physical and mental health resources, sign up for hearing screenings, and more.

Performance and Physical Therapy Advice Sessions: Physical therapists provide meetings with students to help them manage pain, stress, or tension and build strength.

Hearing Testing at the College of Music. Get a baseline hearing test! Testing dates are in September, October, and January, sign up forms are distributed through the student bulletin.

Chair Massages: Twice each semester, the college of music offers chair massages for music students and staff. Signups will be announced through the student bulletin.

Courses: MUS494-Health and wellness for Musicians, is offered Fall of odd years. MUS491:097 Alexander Technique course, is offered each semester with instructor Eleanor Morin. For more information, consult your academic advisor.
