Complimentary Ticket Policy

Revised 9/5/2018

The College of Music at Michigan State University has adopted the following Complimentary Ticket Policy to ensure that ticket requests are filled to the best of its ability and to comply with university auditing requirements.

Eligibility
College of Music faculty and staff may request complimentary tickets to college events.
Because of financial pressures on the college to develop significant revenue streams, complimentary tickets are issued on a space-available basis. This will vary from performance to performance. Complimentary tickets are never guaranteed.

  • Complimentary tickets are transferable.
  • No complimentary tickets will be provided to students, although faculty/staff may distribute their own tickets to students at their discretion.
  • Non-student faculty and staff at the Community Music School may request complimentary tickets.
  • College of Music faculty and staff retirees may request complimentary tickets.
  • A limited number of complimentary tickets will be made available to bona fide media representatives through the Communications Office.

Events & Comp Tickets
Events with regular ticket prices (marked with the “$” symbol in the season brochure):

Faculty/staff may request a pack of ten or twenty ticket vouchers for their personal use or distribution to others. The vouchers MUST be redeemed for event tickets through the Main Office or at the event. You may use these vouchers in any combination for any number of events throughout the year.

Events with a special admission charge (with the “$$”, and “$$$” symbol in the season brochure, as well as Jazz Spectacular): Faculty/staff may request up to two complimentary tickets to each event for their personal use or distribution to others. Events in this category include but are not limited to: West Circle Series, Showcase Series, MSU Opera Theatre, and Jazz Spectacular. Spartan Spectacular comps are NOT available.

How to Request Tickets
To request tickets, send an email to Lynne Funk giving the name, date and location of the event for which you need tickets. All requests and forms must be submitted at least three business days before the tickets are needed. This lead time is necessary for us to request your tickets from the event venue and make them available to you.

Deadline for Complimentary Ticket Requests
All requests for complimentary tickets must be made at least three business days in advance of the performance you wish to attend. No complimentary tickets will be issued on the day of, or during, a performance.

Picking up Your Tickets
Ticket vouchers will be placed in your Main Office mailbox.  Tickets for special admission events will be held for you at the Wharton Center Box Office or the ticket sales desk at Music Building, Fairchild, and Dem Hall events.  Tickets not picked up by performance start time may be released for use by other patrons.

Sold Out Shows
Please request your complimentary tickets as early as possible. If a performance is sold out at the time you request your tickets, your name will be placed on a wait list and your request filled if seats become available.
