Jury Requirements for Woodwinds


For Music Performance and Music Education Majors:


Applies to all undergraduate woodwind students

  • Memorized extended scales are required in ALL juries. Consult applied teacher for details of what scales in which semesters as well as the performance format.
  • Barrier jury must have memorized all major, harmonic and melodic minors in extended range (consult applied teacher for the performance format)
  • Exit jury requires no scales and must be played within the final semester of applied study.

NOTE: Juries must have piano accompaniment on at least one piece and that maximum playing time for jury music is 7 minutes.


Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute

Undergraduate student jury requirements
Fall and Spring - Freshman yr.
Spring - Sophomore yr. (barrier)
Fall or Spring - Junior yr.
Fall or Spring - Senior yr
Fall or Spring - Super Senior (5th) yr (last semester of residency)

Masters Student Jury Requirements
One jury required within the first year of Masters degree program only.


Oboe and Bassoon

Undergraduate student jury requirements
Spring Freshman yr.
Fall and Spring - Sophomore yr.(barrier)
Fall or Spring - Junior yr.
Fall or Spring - Senior yr
Fall or Spring - Super Senior (5th) yr. ( last semester of residency)

Masters student jury requirements 
One jury required within the first year of Masters degree program only.

DMA student jury requirements
No juries are required.

NOTE: In the undergraduate degrees, a jury is still required each year, even if student gives a degree required recital. This way, the student is still performing once per year for the woodwind faculty.


For Music Composition Majors and Bachelor Of Arts Music Majors:


Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute

Jury requirements
Fall and Spring - Freshman yr.
Spring - Sophomore yr. (barrier)
Spring - Junior yr.
