Locker Keys

This is a reminder that ALL locker keys must be returned to the main office NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2022 AT 5:00 p.m. Failure to do so may result in late/lost key charges of $20.00 or a core change charge of $100.00.

Thank you for your cooperation with this matter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the main office at 517-353-5340, or email Lynne Funk.

SIRS Forms

SIRS forms are one of the most effective ways for students to communicate their concerns about a particular class to the administration. Some students have expressed concern about maintaining their anonymity when completing the SIRS forms. The College of Music assures you that SIRS survey results are completely anonymous. The SIRS surveys require a student ID to access the survey only to ensure that a Michigan State University student is completing the survey and to prevent a student from taking the survey more than once. Your IP address, location data, netid and any other information are not collected or recorded in any way. The link you are provided is not trackable, and faculty do not have access to their surveys. They are provided with a report once the survey closes that compiles all information and comments. If you have any questions or concerns about the SIRS process, do not hesitate to see either Assoc. Dean Kroth or Assoc. Dean Rayl.

Destination Survey

For UG and Masters students graduating:

Please report your next steps (grad school, employment, freelance, gap year) on the MSU Music Destination Survey. This brief survey provides information for future College of Music students regarding the next steps of successful alumni. If you’d like to talk about your next steps, or are feeling stressed about life after graduation, please reach out to the Running Start team, Chris Glassman and Christine Beamer

Chamber Music & Chill

ALL COLLEGE OF MUSIC STUDENTS INVITED

Come play music with friends! Take a break from the stress of recitals and final projects to hang in MPB 103 this Sunday, 4/24, from 7 to 9pm. We will have free pizza and drinks, and everyone will have a chance to play something for fun. We will provide some music, but feel free to bring something you have always wanted to play (solo work or chamber) to read with others. Come take some time to meet new friends, laugh with old ones, and remember why we love playing music.

Summer and Fall MSU COVID Policies Update

  • MSU will continue its COVID‑19 vaccine and booster mandate for the Summer 2022 semester and the 2022-2023 academic year. All students, faculty and staff must either be fully vaccinated and have received a booster shot OR have received an approved exemption. Each person, regardless of whether receiving the vaccination or obtaining an exception, must submit  information via MSU’s vaccine verification form. Students who fail to submit their vaccine information will be prevented from enrolling in summer 2022 and fall 2022 classes. Visit the Together We Will website to find a vaccine provider and all details on other MSU policies.

Wagner Chamber Music Competition finals

SUPPORT YOUR MUSIC PEERS! Six College of Music chamber groups will compete this Friday and Saturday in the final round of the Wagner Chamber Music Competition. Students can get in for free, so bring your friends! You can stay for the whole show or only the time that works for you. Either way, a big crowd will show these hard-working students that their community supports them. Plus, there is a $250 audience choice award that attendees can vote for in-person or online at the end of the competition on Saturday.

The finals are at Fairchild Theatre, Friday 4/15 at 8pm and Satuday 4/16 at 3pm. Tickets are available at the box office - again, FREE to students - or you can view the event pages for more information on the competitors and to reserve your ticket.

Registering for commencement ceremonies

All students graduating this spring must register to participate in a commencement ceremony if they wish to attend. The deadline is quickly approaching on April 18. The Commencement Office now requires candidates to register to participate in a ceremony (walk). This is true for undergraduates as well as advanced degrees.

Billing and Financial Aid

It is always important to be sure your student account is paid in full, but avoiding a financial hold has special significance when you are enrolling. If you are enrolling for summer or fall 2022 semesters, for examples, a hold on our account may prevent you from doing so.

If you have questions about about your acccount or anything related to MSU policies, email studentaffairs@msu.edu.

Education Abroad

If you are among the fortunate students looking forward to an Education Abroad trip, make sure you are properly prepared for the adventure. The Office of Education Abroad has prepared a helpful web page addressing the most important topics for you to review on their the Preparing to Travel site.

Help with Writing

Writing is not every person's strong suit, and if a big writing assignment is on your to-do list this semester, it can bring a lot of stress. The MSU Writing Center is here to help. Trained, friendly staff can assist with term papers, projects, and much more. Look them up if this is an area you need some assistance.

Self-Care

Whether it is writing, time-management, test stress, or personal challenges, preparing for finals or graduation can be a stressful time of year. Be sure to check out the master list of stress-busting wellbeing and mental health resources provided here
