An opportunity to meet associate dean candidate Derrick Fox

Dr. Derrick Fox, the first candidate for the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Creative Endeavors search, will be holding a Graduate Student Forum/Q&A. The event will be held on Monday, February 27, at 11:30a in Large Rehearsal, and will be facilitated by student representatives on the search committee Sequoia Snyder, Andrew Bohn, and Jeffrey Allardyce. Please attend if your schedule allows. If you are unable to attend and have questions, please submit them to kroth@msu.edu and the representatives will ask on your behalf.

A Relaxation Space available here in the College

The College of Music has temporarily converted practice room MPB 526 as a Relaxation Space for students through spring break. There are pillows, chairs, kinetic sand, and atmospheric lighting to help it feel cozy. This space was created specifically for Music students to go to when you don’t have time to get home but need to relax or need to step away to process emotions. This is meant to be a fluid space – you can be in there by yourself to relax or bring friends to have comfort and conversations. If you're getting use out of it and would like to see it stay through the end of the semester, please email henleyem@msu.edu to provide feedback.

Music Student Bulletin 2.17.23

Our entire community is struggling to make sense of what happened this week. While it is early in our effort to process these events, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • CAPS has provided a helpful guide to managing distress.
  • We rescheduled our Dean’s lunch with students to Tuesday, February 21 from 11:30 – 1:30, and we welcome the entire Music community. It will be a time for informal, supportive conversations as we help one another through this difficult time. Food and beverages provided. Drop in any time.
  • Given that Berkey Hall will be closed for the remainder of the semester, MSU is asking that all colleges offer classroom and conference room availability to assist with rescheduling classes and other activities. Music will be generous in this regard when possible, so we ask for your patience, as our buildings may be a bit more crowded than usual.
  • Running Start is rescheduling two planned events next week:
    • The Lobby Takeover on February 21 is postponed, and it will be rescheduled during the week of February 27. More details to come, but free portrait photos will be available at the rescheduled event.
    • The Running Start Alumni Mixer on February 23 is postponed until late March. More details to come.
