Free Concert Tickets

Did you know that of the more than 120 events your College of Music hosts each year, most of them are free to students? General admission events are always free, but Music majors get exclusive offers through the rush ticket program. For certain performances that would normally cost to attend, Music students are offered free tickets two days before special events such as the opera performances this week. Be on the lookout for emails with the subject "Student Rush" to take advantage of these special offers.

Flu and RSV Warnings and Recommendations

Recently, University Physician Michael Brown, sent a message to all MSU students regarding flu season and the rise of RSV, and given the close proximity Music students often have in practice rooms, classrooms, and ensembles, it is important to raise awareness and emphasize precautions that can be taken regarding the winter illnesses we begin to see this time of year.

Regarding RSV: while it typically affects younger children more severely and is causing an increase in hospitalizations, most MSU students likely have protection resulting from exposure when they were younger. Still, RSV can cause illness at any age and may also affect employees who care for sick children. Please keep this in mind, stay home if you feel ill, and use a mask in situations where it could be easily spread.

The same is true for what health officials are warning could be an earlier and stronger flu season this winter. Here is some key information from Dr. Brown's messag to help you in the coming weeks as we head into the holidays and semester break:

Get vaccinated against the flu and COVID‑19
The most important step you can take to protect yourself is to get your flu shot and make sure you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations, including receiving the bivalent booster when eligible.

  • Flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinic: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 16 at the Breslin Center. The clinic is a partnership between MSU and Ingham County Health Department and is open to anyone; walk-ins are welcome. More information can be found here.
  • Other flu shot availability: Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at MSU Health Care Pharmacy; walk in or schedule an appointment. There is no cost for most students and employees with insurance. Students also can get vaccinated at Olin Student Health Services, which requires an appointment by calling 517-353-4660.
  • Other COVID-19 vaccine availability: The COVID‑19 bivalent vaccine booster also is available at the MSU Health Care Pharmacy. The flu shot can be administered at the same time as a COVID‑19 booster dose. Use the scheduling link above.

Practice good personal hygiene
These steps seem simple, but they can go a long way in keeping you healthy. Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects, such as doorknobs, tables, light switches, phones, keyboards and faucets. Wipe down your personal spaces and workspaces regularly.

If you do become ill, there is specific guidance for COVID‑19 on the Together We Will website. In general, for any illness, remember to keep your distance from others as best you can, get rest and stay hydrated. f your symptoms worsen, seek medical care. For students living on campus, more information — including how to make meal pickup arrangements — can be found here
