Spartan Voice Survey

Attention all MSU undergraduates: take the Spartan Voice Survey, make your voice heard, and have a chance to win a $75 gift card!

Last month, MSU awarded gift cards to five lucky students who completed the survey. This month’s very short survey is open to all undergraduates at MSU and focuses on in-person and online classes. As MSU begins creating the schedule for next year’s course offerings, students can help determine how many in-person, online, and hybrid courses should be offered next year.

Campus resources for all students

Based on MSU's survey of students last month, here are some topics that came up and the university resources available to all students:

  • Time management workshops from the Collaborative Learning Center are a great way to optimize your schedule and find time to relax as well.
  • If you are in crisis, Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) at MSU provides 24/7 crisis phone counseling. To access, call CAPS anytime at 517-355-8270 and press “1” at the prompt. For more information and other options, please visit:
  • If you are not in crisis at the moment, but wish to schedule an initial consultation appointment with a CAPS counselor, you can do so anytime – day or night – by going to the CAPS website, here: https://caps.msu.edu/schedule/.
  • If you’re looking to make friends, one great way is through a Registered Student Organization (RSO). With almost 1,000 RSOs, the best way to discover student organizations and events to participate in is to check out Involve@State. It is the hub for all things student organizations and campus events! If you have any questions on how to use the platform or about a specific organization, do not hesitate to reach out at involve@msu.edu.
  • There were 11% of MSU students who completed lat months survey that said they were worried about paying for food or housing. Did you know that MSU has a campus food bank? All students enrolled for courses who do not have a meal plan are eligible for free food distribution.

The Spartan Volunteer Service Award

Would an award recognizing your volunteer service enhance your resume? Then the MSU Center for Community Engaged Learning has an opportunity for you.

Announcing the Spartan Volunteer Service Award: A presidential recognition.

Community engagement is what makes being a Spartan so special. The Spartan Volunteer Service Award will be given to any MSU student who serves a minimum of 100 hours of verified community engagement between November 13, 2020 and November 12, 2021

How to be eligible:

  • Download the MSU Civic Life App on your smart phone or tablet.
  • Update your profile and input your qualifying hours by December 12, 2021.
  • All students who update their profiles within the app with 100 or more hours will be eligible for the award.

What Counts Toward the Award?
Community engagement is not just volunteering. There are many things that count toward the 100 hours necessary to be eligible for the SVSA. Your hours can be from during the semester, over the summer, at home, abroad, or on campus at MSU.

Want to Qualify but Need More Hours?

Just complete the two steps below and you will be good to sign up for any of our volunteer opportunities that interest you!

  1. Complete the Beyond the Classroom Volunteering Orientation (20-30 minutes)
Enroll in and complete the D2L module to learn the ins and outs of Community Engaged Learning at MSU.

  2. Complete a Criminal Background Check Authorization Form (~5 minutes)
The MSU Center for Community Engaged Learning works to make sure that all volunteer opportunities are safe and inclusive. For Experience Type, please select "Volunteering (Not part of an MSU course)."

After completing those two steps, signing up for volunteer opportunities will be a breeze. The MSU CCEL will follow up when opportunities are posted.
