MSU College of Music Collections

Since the formation of the first band on campus, music has been central to the arts scene at MSU. Music permeates every aspect of the university community, from formal ceremonies to public concerts and Spartan football games. Arts MSU, the hub for every kind of art present on campus, understands and values this fact as it celebrates the interrelationship between arts of various kinds.

The College of Music values this interrelationship as well. In the spaces where we create, study, and perform music, we maintain art collections that enhance the experience of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Artwork adorns our walls for the enjoyment of the public, and our musical instrument collections serve as interesting historical pieces and unique learning tools for our student musicians.

Our sincere thanks for the Public Art on Campus initiative at MSU that dedicated one-half of one percent of the Billman Music Pavilion’s budget to public art. It was central to our ability to place new art in the new facility. We are also grateful to the many donors who funded the purchase of original art, donated valuable collections, and added to the pieces you see documented here.
