2017 Music in the Garden Series

MSU Music presents a summer series where beauty, music meet.

Music in the WJ Beal Botanical Garden

The Michigan State University College of Music presents the Music in the Garden Concert Series from June 28 to September 7. Bring a blanket and experience the point where beauty and music meet. The concerts, one each month throughout the summer, include four chamber ensemble performances in the W. J. Beal Botanical Garden. The series presents the Spartan Student Jazz Combo; M.I. Concerts Percussion and Flute Duo; Brass Tacks Quartet; and Spectra Saxophone Quartet.

“Staff at the Beal Botanical Garden and the College of Music were looking for a way to make the greater Lansing community feel welcome on campus during the summer,” says Christine Beamer, director of career services and music entrepreneurship at the College of Music and one of the coordinators of the series. “This series gives some of our best student chamber ensembles the opportunity to engage with audiences and build relationships with community members outside the concert hall. And attendees get to enjoy great music in a unique atmosphere.”

The MSU Food Truck and Dairy Story ice cream will be available to the audience during the performances. The rain location for all four concerts is the Music Building across the street. Concerts are free and open to the public.
