Chasing the Moon

Piano concert explores Chinese culture and traditions.

Pianist Haobing Zhu, a doctoral candidate in piano performance at MSU College of Music, as a well as piano instructor at MSU Community Music School, performed five transcriptions based on Chinese traditional music this past December at her lecture recital, Chasing the Moon. Zhu bridged the cultural gap between China and America by showing the dynamic diversity of the Chinese culture through a language we all understand — music.

Zhu is also a past recipient of a $1,000 grant awarded by the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, which has helped fund her music endeavors including community concerts, and presentations. Click here to read more about this grant she received.

Haobing Zhu describes it as, “a great opportunity for me to share Chinese culture with the community. Chasing the Moon allowed me to express my own artistic personality while discovering the roles of music and culture in today’s society. I am grateful to be a Spartan.”
