College of Music celebrates its range and variety with annual Collage concert

Collage VI, a unique, fast-paced concert that promises to entertain all audiences with a variety of musical genres and surprise, is slated for Friday, September 21, at 8:00 p.m. in Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall.

The annual non-stop concert, part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Showcase Series, showcases the college’s best offerings providing a sampling for all musical palates.

“This highly produced concert truly offers a cross-section view of the College of Music,” says Kevin Sedatole, Collage VI artistic coordinator and director of MSU Bands. “It is a celebration of the diverse culture of the College of Music and MSU. Our ‘fast and furious’ show will represent the vast performance array of our students.”

More than 300 performers will take the stage, presenting 20 acts in 90 minutes, and perform a wide range of selections from classical to contemporary and music theatre to jazz. Acts range from soloists and quartets to the college’s top ensembles – Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra I, University Chorale, and Wind Symphony.

Other groups and soloists performing include:

  • MSU Drumline
  • Piano soloists
  • Clarinet quartet
  • Men’s Glee Club
  • Percussion quartet
  • Trombone choir
  • Solo violin, saxophone, and marimba

The concert will be rewarding for participants, as well as the audience, says Sedatole. “Collage is also an eye-opener for our students where they gain a new perspective and appreciation of what goes on here in the college. They ultimately earn more respect for their colleagues,” Sedatole adds.

Tickets for Collage VI and for all MSUFCU Showcase Series concerts are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $10 for students with ID or those under 18 years of age and are only available from the Wharton Center Box Office by calling (517) 432-2000 or (800) WHARTON, or online at whartoncenter.com.
