Ketchens wows the crowd

Dr. Doreen Ketchens brings New Orleans to East Lansing, spreading great joy along the way.

Doreen Ketchens is a clarinetist and singer who brings energy and enthusiasm to every one of her performances. MSU Bands and the MSU College of Music were honored to have her presence on campus this fall, and she did not disappoint. With a full schedule that included interaction with many students, she performed at a halftime show with the Spartan Marching Band and the following day at a concert with the MSU Wind Symphony. In both venues, she brought the crowd to their feet with her combination of classical training and jazz chops. She exudes joy and gratefulness when on stage and off, and the positivity and musicality she brought to East Lansing was infectious. Thank you, Dr. Ketchens!

MSU Professor and Chair of the Percussion Area Gwendolyn Dease was featured during the same MSU Wind Symphony concert that included Doreen Ketchens, performing Concerto for Percussion and Wind Ensemble by Paul Lansky.
