Message from the Dean: Fall 2015 v2

Thank you to our fellow Spartans. We wish you the warmest of holiday cheer.

Dear Friends,

As the 2015 calendar year closes and we near the end of Fall Semester, we are grateful for a vibrant musical community of students, faculty, and alumni who make a difference for others. Many friends of the College have facilitated our work through their support, and we wish to express our thanks.

I believe the power and reach of music from MSU, as well as the support that fosters it, is represented well in the stories that accompany this fall issue of our newsletter. We are happy to share good news from a new appointment in Shanghai to an invited student ensemble performance in New York City’s Merkin Hall; from doctoral students in music education who were showcased at a major national in-service conference to a music education alumnus selected as one the best educators in Illinois; from a Cuban composition DMA candidate who won first place in the CINTAS Foundation Fellowship Competition to the stories of students and alumni utilizing their entrepreneurial skills to benefit multiple communities. Of course this would not be possible without the superb faculty who make the MSU College of Music an exceptional learning community of scholars, entrepreneurs and performing artists with an impact that is felt in our Spartan community and around the globe.

Sincerely,

James Forger
Dean, MSU College of Music
