MSU Music presents Venezuelan Trio in concert of all Latin American works

Program includes premiere of work by MSU composition faculty Ricardo Lorenz

A celebrated piano trio committed to promoting multi-cultural understanding through Latin American music will visit the MSU campus to perform and mentor students through the MSU College of Music’s Entrepreneurial Musical Artist in Residence Program funded by the MSU Federal Credit Union with additional support provided by the Sam and Mary Austin Fund for new music in the College of Music. The Reverón Piano Trio will highlight their three-day residency of in-person and community workshops with a performance comprised entirely of works by Latin American and Latino composers—including a premiere of a trio work by College of Music composition faculty Ricardo Lorenz. The performance is slated for Friday, November 12 at 8 p.m. in the Cook Recital Hall of the MSU Music Building, and is part of the College of Music Artist-Faculty and Guest Recital Series.

Reverón Trio is named after Venezuelan artist Armando Reverón, one of the pioneers of modernist painting in the Americas. The MSU program features music by Manuel Ponce and Eduardo Alonso Crespo, and the premiere of La Hamaca (The Hammock), composed by the Venezuelan-born Lorenz. Trio members include Venezuelan artists Ana María Otamendi, piano; Simón Gollo, violin, and Horacio Contreras, cello.

The Reverón Trio is devoted to the discovery, cataloguing, performance, and recording of underrepresented music from Latin America alongside contemporary and standard repertoire. The Trio continues to commission new works, and is currently creating the Sphinx Catalog of Latin American Piano Trios. Upcoming projects include the release of their first audio recording produced and distributed globally by IBS Classical.

Throughout their multi-day residency at MSU, Reverón Trio will engage students through masterclasses, entrepreneurship workshops, and a public concert. Students from the composition area will also have the opportunity to have their original compositions read by Reverón Trio in an open-to-the-public workshop on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at the MSU Community Music School, 4930 Hagadorn Road, E. Lansing.

Created in 2019, the MSUFCU Entrepreneurial Musical Artist in Residence (EMAR) endowment focuses on entrepreneurship in the musical arts and brings MSU College of Music students an opportunity to learn from and network with successful and progressive artists.
