MSU Opera Theatre Celebrates the Vocal Arts with a New Event

Spectacular voices on full display at Fairchild Theatre

Graduate students from the Michigan State University Vocal Arts area will fill the stage with vocal brilliance in a special performance of scenes from operatic masterworks in Fairchild Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 6, at 3 p.m.

A Celebration of the Beautiful Voice features excerpts from classics like Faust, Carmen, La Traviata, The Marriage of Figaro, La Boheme, and more. A brand-new event this year, performances showcase the depth of talent in the MSU Opera Theatre and Vocal Arts area and is designed to highlight repertoire covering the four major operatic languages: Italian, French, German and English.

“Thanks to our generous donors, we’re able to stage an additional event that will uplift audiences through the incredible talents of our student artists and singers,” said Melanie Helton, director of the MSU Opera Theatre and professor of voice. “The event will immerse patrons with spectacular arias from signature operas.”

Helton is a renowned soprano and has directed the award-winning MSU Opera Program for nearly 20 years. Other upcoming performances in the MSU Opera season include Albert Henning by Benjamin Britten, Wednesday, March 23, Friday, March 25, and Saturday, March 26 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 27 at 3 p.m.; generously sponsored by James and Susan Bonfiglio. All MSU Opera Theatre events are held in the Fairchild Theatre, with preview lectures held 45 minutes before the performance.
