In modern Mexico, people celebrate Día de los Muertos, a colorful holiday dedicated to the dearly departed. Though the specific traditions and rituals involved with the Day of the Dead vary from region to region, the celebration generally revolves around the creation of an altar, which participants fill with photos of their deceased loved ones, decorations, food, and other offerings. These altars are dedicated to deceased relatives and loved ones and are created to aid them in the afterlife—a concept that has always been central to the holiday.
During the event, we will build an ofrenda (on the lobby counter), listen to traditional music for the holiday, and decorate sugar skull cookies! We encourage you to bring a picture of your departed loved ones or someone who means a lot to you such as a composer or musician who initiated your interest in being a musician to add to the altar.
