We are thrilled to welcome Ari Cohen Mann to Michigan State University for a recital and masterclass with oboe students. Their performance, along with pianist Sandy Huang, will feature the riveting piece Vortex by Kevin Day, along with their own arrangement of Pulcinella Suite by Igor Stravinsky, re-imagined for oboe and piano.
Ari Cohen Mann is a Toronto-based oboist, English horn player, and educator celebrated for their “brilliant virtuosity” and vibrant online presence. They’ve been named to CBC’s “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30,” and been playfully dubbed the “Jonathan Van Ness of the oboe.”
Their career spans solo recitals, orchestral work, and new music premieres. Ari made their solo debut at Carnegie Hall with harpist Noël Wan, and has performed as concerto soloist with a variety of ensembles including the National Academy Orchestra, Canadian Studio Symphony, and Ontario Philharmonic.
A devoted champion of contemporary repertoire, Ari has premiered works by composers such as Kevin Day, Jocelyn Morlock, and Nicky Sohn. In addition to performing, they teach oboe at institutions including Wilfrid Laurier University and The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
We look forward to an inspiring performance and a masterclass that promises insight and passionate artistry.
