The MSU College of Music offers a variety of employment opportunities for current students. Information on these positions and how to apply is listed in the table below.

College of Music Admissions Signs will be posted when position is vacant. Admissions student staff assist the Admissions team with prospective student visits (scheduling, mailings, etc.); general receptionist responsibilities, and other related duties as assigned; must be able to attend the College of Music Audition Days in January and February of each year Grimaldo Robles Fall Semester as needed
College of Music Communications Posted on Handshake  when vacant or inquire in the Communications Office, 253 Music Building. Two positions each year; occasional project work.

Areas of emphasis include:

Social media and College communications
(marketing initiatives, social media content, writing, and editing)

Digital engagement
(analyze and develop digital strategies, handle event reporting and subscription maintenance, and determine how metrics influence strategy)  

Event communications and calendar management
(e-marketing campaigns for events, internal communication, distribution and organization of marketing assets)

College of Music Recording Services Continously accepts applications. Must have prior experience. Interested students should submit resume to Recording Services. An average of 10 on call employees perform duties from basic recital recordings to assisting with live sound at Fairchild and Cook, according to experience Jennifer Shangraw Fall Semester or as needed

Events

Event Staff consists of Student Special Events Assistant I positions (ushers, box office, and stage assistans) and Student Special Events Assistant II positions (with similar responsibilites to that of a stage management postion).

Ushers assist with collecting and scanning ticket stubs for attendance/accounting purposes, distributing programs and other information, directing patrons to seats, and monitoring entry and exit of halls. Ushers maintain an overall pleasant attitude and excellent work ethic.

Student Special Events Assistant I positions assist the Student Special Events Assistant II positions with setting up the stage, efficiently executing stage changes, and other backstage responsibilities based on what the Student Special Events Assistant II and performers need. Student Special Events Assistant I positions maintain an overall pleasant and helpful attitude to performers and an excellent work ethic. 

If assigned to the box office, Student Special Events Assistant I positions assist with ticket sales utilizing appropriate software, providing patrons with information, assisting patrons while selecting seats, navigating and troubleshooting the ticketing system, keeping appropriate records of house passes, will call tickets, and general sales. Student Special Events Assistant I positions in the box office assist the Student Special Events Assistant II positions with reconciling all money from sales while maintaining an overall pleasant attitude and excellent work ethic.

Student Special Events Assistant II positions have increased responsibilities for leading and developing event staff; introductory supervisor position to help build resumes and gain more experience in a management/leadership position. Student Special Events Assistant II employees complete assignments for stage changes prior to the performance and execute them accurately and efficiently, fulfill performer requests and maintain a good rapport with the performers, keep the backstage areas clean, delegate responsibilities to the Student Special Events Assistant I positions, and facilitate communication between the Front of House and Backstage areas. Event Managers (Event Staff) have increased responsibilities for leading and developing staff in their respective areas: collect availability data and publish schedules to fit staffing needs; organize records and maintain sensitive information; complete higher-level projects (such as creating tickets, using advanced software features, managing database information); work with College of Music partners to ensure communication is efficient and thorough; assist with interviewing, hiring, training, and developing Event Staff (Student Special Events Assistant I and II positions); coordinate events to ensure all needs are met; and other supervisory duties as assigned. College of Music Main Office/Facilities Inquire in the Main Office. Main Office staff assist with editing and printing student programs; process ticket sales via phone and walk-ins; review and schedule space usage requests for rehearsals, meetings, recitals, etc.; receive and handle mail, packages and other deliverables; provide room and locker keys to appropriate persons and ensure their proper return; other office duties as assigned. Graduate Assistantship Determined by applied faculty.

The College of Music employs approximately 100 Teaching Assistants each semester. These TAs teach or assist with a variety of academic music courses, applied lessons, and ensembles and require one or more previous degrees in music.

If you are a current or incoming graduate student in the College of Music, you need do nothing more to apply for a TA. You will automatically be placed in the employment pool.

MSU Music Library Continuously accepts applications-apply on Library website. Students with work-study are given preference. Staff Music Library desk, handle patron transactions, shelve materials. All students are initially hired at entry level positions. Grace Haynes As needed
Orchestra Librarian Passed between members of Symphony Orchestra. Orchestra librarian copies music and fills all music folders; responsible for the organization of the Symphony Orchestra Library.

Orchestra Manager Passed down between orchestra members. Orchestra Manager organizes the Symphony Orchestra auditions and seating lists, checks the program before going to print, and handles most emailing between all members of the orchestra.

Running Start Listed on  Handshake when vacant. Marketing and Student engagement interns develop and improve their marketing and communications skills and use those skills to promote and support innovation at the College of Music. Responsibilities include graphic design, social media, website maintenance, and developing entrepreneurial alumni spotlights.

Gigline Fill out application on Gigline website. Gigline is a service for individuals and organizations seeking performers for weddings, receptions, parties, and other special events, both on- and off-campus. Students must develop a webpage with a bio and headshot in order to be listed. Christine Beamer Must apply by Oct. 1 to be listed for that academic year
Spartan Youth Wind Symphony Coach Conductors contact prospective coaches. Section Coaches coach the students in chamber music and large ensemble settings.
