TicketsThe MSU College of Music’s band concert series kicks off with an exhilarating performance by the Wind Symphony on Thursday, September 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Cobb Great Hall at Wharton Center. This special concert features the internationally celebrated brass quintet, Boston Brass, known for their energetic presence and multi-genre performance style.
The Boston Brass ensemble consists of José Sibaja, trumpet; Jeff Conner, trumpet; Chris Castellanos, horn; Domingo Pagliuca, trombone; William Russell, tuba.
Boston Brass is renowned for their seamless blend of classical, jazz, and popular music, captivating audiences worldwide. For this concert with the MSU Wind Symphony, they’ll showcase their artistry in a carefully curated program, highlighting their versatility and dynamic collaboration. In addition to their vibrant stage presence, Boston Brass is deeply committed to music education. While on tour, they conduct workshops and masterclasses to inspire the next generation of musicians. Their passion for audience engagement and performance versatility has made them one of the leading brass ensembles today.
For this concert, the ensemble will perform alongside the MSU Wind Symphony, showcasing a varied program that includes Overture from Dancer in the Dark (arr. Henry Dorn) by Björk Guðmundsdóttir, Downey Overture by Óscar Navarro, L.A.tudes by Jules Pegram, Perplexing Times by Gordon Goodwin, Summertime (arr. Chris Castellanos) by George Gershwin, and Malagueña (arr. Chris Castellanos) by Ernesto Lecuona. The concert will be conducted by Kevin L. Sedatole, Director of Bands at MSU.
During their visit, Boston Brass will also lead masterclasses in horn and tuba, offering students at the MSU College of Music a unique opportunity to gain professional insights from these acclaimed musicians.
The MSU Wind Symphony performs in the Cobb Great Hall of Wharton Center and will present six concerts during the 2024-2025 Music Season.
