MSU University Distinguished Professor of Jazz Bass and Director of Jazz Studies Rodney Whitaker’s latest release features his long-standing quintet of jazz masters.

MSU Director of Jazz Studies Rodney Whitaker further solidifies himself as a leader in the jazz scene with his newest release. Oasis: The Music of Gregg Hill is an inspired recording that celebrates the tension between emotion and intellect. The third album in their series, Oasis emphasizes the treasured collaboration between Whitaker and Gregg Hill as they climb to new heights.

Featured on this album is Whitaker’s renowned quintet of fellow jazz masters. Pianest Bruce Barth, Terell Stafford on trumpet, Tim Warfield on sax, and drummer Dana Hall make up this impressive group. Vocalist/lyricist Rockelle Fortin also makes a stellar appearance on the opener, “Betty’s Tune.” These electrifying artists work in conjunction with Whitaker to bring Hill’s music to life with an inspired passion.

“The variety is broad and the band itself can blow up a storm,” writes Dave Rogers of WTJU.
