Mozart Celebrated by MSU Music

The annual concert marks the birthday of the Classic era’s legendary composer.

The annual Happy Birthday, Mozart! concert takes place in the Fairchild Theatre of the MSU Auditorium.

For the 14th year, artists from the College of Music at Michigan State University pay tribute to one of the greatest composers of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The annual Happy Birthday, Mozart! concert will be held Monday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Fairchild Theatre.

The prolific Mozart left the world with such an expansive catalog of music that helps MSU artists make this annual concert unique each year. The anchor of the College’s esteemed Joanne and Bill Church West Circle Series, MSU artists have added this year members of a top choir to help feature Mozart’s celebrated voice and choral works.

This year’s concert will feature a unique blend of Mozart's celebrated instrumental chamber music with select choral works.

The program includes the ever-popular Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, K.493, and celebrated voice and choral works God is our Refuge, K.20, movements one and two from Mozart’s Requiem, the Papageno & Papagena duet from the Magic Flute, and the famous chorus Placido è il mar from Idomeneo.

This concert, generously sponsored by Ann, John and Abby Lindley, includes members of MSU’s Chamber Choir, conducted by Sandra Snow, and features Suren Bagratuni, cello; Yvonne Lam, violin; Eric Nowlin, viola; and Deborah Moriarty, piano.

As always following this special performance, concertgoers can enjoy birthday cookies with the artists while looking forward to the final concert of the 2023-24 West Circle Series, Con Amore: Puccini and More on Monday, April 8 in Fairchild Theatre.

Our thanks to Joanne and Bill Church who sponsor the West Circle Series.

Reserved seating for this and other concerts in the Joanne and Bill Church West Circle Series are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors (age 60 and older), and $7 for students and those under 18 with valid ID, and can be purchased online (music.msu.edu), by calling (517) 353-5340, or at the door.
