A wide variety of performance opportunities await our students each year, with orchestras, bands, choirs and opera, jazz nonets and combos, small ensembles, and more.
A variety of programs and initiatives operate continuously or annually to enhance learning experiences and help students prepare for their future in music.
The MSU College of Music supports and challenges students, values innovation and creativity, and helps every community member achieve professional excellence.
Ensemble participation requirements for master’s students have changed effective Fall 2022. Please read the information below.
For those entering Fall 2022 or later: Each master’s degree program carries specific major ensemble requirements, which require enrollment in specific sections of MUS 896. Details are in ‘Degree Requirements’. For these students, ensemble participation is no longer tied to College of Music Scholarships.
For those entering prior to Fall 2022: Each master’s degree program carried specific major ensemble requirements. Students who have not yet met the curricular requirement of two semesters of ensemble participation, must still complete that requirement by participating, but not enrolling for credit. Details are in ‘Degree Requirements’. In addition, these students who are on College of Music Scholarships will continue to be required to participate but not enroll in ensembles per their award letter.
