Jury Requirements for Vocal Arts

Voice Area Jury Grading Procedures:

All applied faculty attend the jury and each faculty member comments individually on every jury. Each faculty member assigns their personal jury grade for each student. The area chair reviews the individual grades and reports the averaged jury grade back to the faculty who place the averaged grade back on their commentary sheet. This is the individuals “jury” grade. Area guidelines strongly encourage each applied professor to assign their student’s semester grade based within .5 above or below each student’s jury grade.

2nd Sophomore	BA	2 songs (1 song each in Italian and English) + 1 assigned but unassisted song.	Total 3 songs
	E	4 songs (1 each in Italian, German, French, English) + 1 assigned but unassisted song.	Total of 5 songs. Two songs may be previously performed.
	P	4 songs (1 each in Italian, German, French, English) + 2 songs of any language + 1 assigned but unassisted song.	Total of 7 songs. 3 songs may be previously performed.

1st Junior	BA	1 song any language	No song performed from previous jury.
	E	2 songs any language	No song performed from previous jury.
	P	3 songs any language	No song performed from previous jury.

2nd Junior	BA	1 opera aria or oratorio + 1 musical theater/operetta
	E	1 opera aria + 1 oratorio aria (with book) + 1 musical theater/operetta selection + 1 oratorio recit (with book) or opera recit (memorized)	Recits assigned at the discretion of professor and should besubstantive. Recits may either be secco or accompagnato
	P	3 arias opera + 1 aria oratorio (with book) + 1 musical theater or operetta selection + 1 secco opera recit (memorize) + 1 oratorio recit (with book)	Recits assigned at the discretion of professor.
