Jury Requirements for Woodwinds
Applies to all undergraduate woodwind students
- All juries are ten (10) minutes in length, including repertoire and scales.
- Memorized extended scales are required in ALL juries (except the exit jury). Consult your major professor for details of what scales, in which semesters, as well as the performance format.
- Barrier jury must include memorized extended scales in all major, harmonic and melodic minors (consult the major professor for the performance format)
- Woodwind faculty adjudicators will provide written comments and assign a grade for each student’s jury performance except for the exit jury.
- Repertoire and collaborative performance requirements are determined by the major professor. When a score calls for a pianist, their inclusion is required.
- The barrier jury must be performed with a pianist. After a successful passing of the barrier jury, undergraduate students may choose to perform an unaccompanied solo work for one jury at the 300 level of study (i.e., no pianist required). All other juries, including graduate juries, must be performed with a pianist when appropriate
- Exit jury must be played in the final semester of applied study. (Scales are not required in an Exit Jury. Faculty comments are not given)
