A wide variety of performance opportunities await our students each year, with orchestras, bands, choirs and opera, jazz nonets and combos, small ensembles, and more.
A variety of programs and initiatives operate continuously or annually to enhance learning experiences and help students prepare for their future in music.
The MSU College of Music supports and challenges students, values innovation and creativity, and helps every community member achieve professional excellence.
Recently, we have experienced occasions where the Tech Carts and their respective cables in various spaces are being unplugged from the wall while rooms are being used.
Please do not unplug any items on the carts or any of their connections to the wall receptacles.
There is a significant amount of equipment built into each cart, and not all items automatically power back on when unplugged, including the built-in recording and livestreaming systems. The process to reboot each cart can also take a significant amount of time (20-30 minutes). Ensuring these carts are always plugged in, and just moving them to a location that is convenient depending on the usage of the space, would be appreciated.
Thank you for your attention to this request. Your cooperation will help to ensure that each space is left in a state that contributes to an easier setup for the next occupant.

Sign up for a FREE 15-minute advice session with a physical therapist or health professional! This is an opportunity for you to address any tightness, stress, or pain you have when performing (or after a long day of performing). You can also use this time to learn more about how to PREVENT injuries from occuring and optimize your performing. Please note: this is an opportunity to talk to a professional, but this is not substitution for treatment for an acute injury. Marching Band and Music majors and minors are all welcome!
Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity is providing a free service to all students with upcoming recitals in studios within the college! They are designing, printing, and hanging posters for end-of-year recitals for all students interested. They are using Canva to create posters to promote recitals and performances of studios, alleviating the need to focus on marketing. This allows students to concentrate fully on perfecting performances without the added stress of advertising.
Fill out the interest form for more information.
The service is offered for the rest of the semester. Contact Patrick Mulligan or E. R. Antieau with questions.

Recently announced, the Feb. 13 Permanent Memorial Planning Committee on behalf of MSU is inviting members from across the Spartan community to provide feedback to help shape a lasting campus memorial in honor and remembrance of those lost and those affected by the Feb. 13, 2023 tragedy.
A vital aspect of the planning process is to gather broad community input, and there are three ways for students to participate in March:
The Eric ‘RicStar’ Winter Music Therapy Camp, held at the Community Music School-East Lansing is seeking volunteers/BuddyUps for camp June 13-15 and 17-19, 2024. Volunteers/BuddyUps participate in the various camp sessions while assisting, supporting, encouraging and celebrating our RicStar campers. BuddyUps are middle and high school students, and volunteers are those who have graduated high school. No prior experience in music or in working with people with disabilities is needed. Volunteer training is provided! Volunteers range from parents/friends/siblings of campers, teachers, paraprofessionals, college students, HS/MS students, etc. If you know of any students, family members or friends who might be interested, please connect them with Cindy Edgerton: edgerto3@msu.edu or 517-667-8326.
Spring is an opportunity for new growth! As the season turns, it can be supportive to take time to reflect on what has been and prepare for what is ahead, especially as the semester is coming to a close. This space is designed for College of Music students to practice wellbeing together. There will be no formal agenda; instead, opportunities for creative reflection, such as art supplies, self-care planning resources, and journal prompts will be provided. No need to sign up ahead of time! Consider stopping by as a healthy time for you and our community, and feel free to contact Christian Gibson if you have questions. Group will be held Friday afternoons, 3-4:30 PM March 22-April 12 in Room 241.
Registration is open for the 14th annual César Chávez & Dolores Huerta Commemorative Celebration on Monday, March 25th. The celebration honors the legacies of local and national community leaders and organizers and their work to champion change within the farmworker and Latinx communities. The theme for 2024 is Cosechando Nuestros Sueños: Harvesting Our Dreams. For more information, visit the event website.

NOW Ensemble is a dynamic group of instrumentalists featuring flute, clarinet, electric guitar, piano, and bass. A core part of NOW Ensemble’s mission has been collaborative work with emerging composers around the world. This concert will feature the world premiere of their most recent collaboration with Michigan-based composer and MSU College of Music alumnus Griffin Candey. The piece focuses on the quiet nostalgia for small hometowns and the way they shape us as people. Candey aims to explore this relationship and how he has navigated it throughout his upbringing in Michigan.
Music students may receive up to four tickets in the Main Office of the Music Building.
The 2024 College of Music Health and Wellness Survey is now open!
Yearly input from current students is essential to help our College of Music Health and Wellness faculty/staff committee understand student perspectives about health and wellness, current use of resources, and help us take action to prioritize new programs and services. Feedback from the survey in 2022 and 2023 resulted in more health and wellness classes at the College of Music, our new embedded counselor, and other resources.
Take the MSU Music Health and Wellness survey before March 22 to provide feedback on health and wellness resources within the College. Your opinions help us shape the next year of programming and resources!
Interested in seeing who is on the College of Music Health and Wellness committee? Each area has its own faculty representative, listed here.
