Now in its 28th season, the Muelder Summer Carillon Concert Series brings the unique sound of the bells to life from the heart of MSU’s campus at historic Beaumont Tower. Curated by Jon Lehrer, director and carillonist of Beaumont Tower, this year’s series features six award-winning guest artists, including four honorees from the 2024 Queen Fabiola International Carillon Competition. Concerts take place every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., July 2 through August 6, and are free and open to the public. Join us for a summer evening of music—bring a chair or blanket, pack a picnic, and enjoy the beautiful campus surroundings.
Guest Carillonist: Trevor Workman
Trevor Workman serves as Carillonneur for the historic Bournville Carillon in Birmingham, England, a post he has held since 1965. A prominent figure in British carillon culture, he received the British Empire Medal from the late Queen Elizabeth II and has performed internationally throughout Europe and the United States, currently serving as President of the Carillon Society of Britain and Ireland.
The program he will present for this event bridges classical roots and theatrical flair, featuring elegant works by Bach, Mozart, and Albinoni alongside popular selections from Cole Porter, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and The Beatles. Highlights include Ronald Barnes’s Concerto Grosso II, an homage to Bach, and Workman’s own arrangements of musical theater and film favorites.
