Now in its 28th season, the Muelder Summer Carillon Concert Series brings the unique sound of the bells to life from the heart of MSU’s campus at historic Beaumont Tower. Curated by Jon Lehrer, director and carillonist of Beaumont Tower, this year’s series features six award-winning guest artists, including four honorees from the 2024 Queen Fabiola International Carillon Competition. Concerts take place every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., July 2 through August 6, and are free and open to the public. Join us for a summer evening of music—bring a chair or blanket, pack a picnic, and enjoy the beautiful campus surroundings.

Guest Carillonist: Anne Lu
Anne Lu is a freelance carillonneur based in New York and a laureate of the 2024 Queen Fabiola Carillon Competition. She began playing carillon at Yale University under Ellen Dickinson and continued her studies at the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen, Belgium, with Eddy Marien, Koen Van Assche, and Boudewijn Zwart. Beyond the tower, Anne enjoys fiction, dark chocolate, and the company of elusive cats—especially those she can charm from spiral staircases.

Her program features a colorful mix of melodies across time and culture. The recital opens with a trio of beloved themes from Beauty and the Beast and flows into Summer Flowers, a gentle floral-inspired set including traditional and arranged works. Three 20th-Century Melodies follows with wistful favorites like Moon River and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The introspective Songs Without Words section features expressive works by Geert D’hollander, Connor Chee, and Mendelssohn, before closing with a set of Popular Tunes from La La Land, Don McLean, and Leonard Cohen.
