Jazz Voice Audition Material

Undergraduate and Music Minor

All material must be memorized and performed in a key appropriate for student’s vocal range.

Performance

Students should be prepared to sing all five songs below. The faculty will select two of the five songs. Play the melody to all compositions and improvise.

• “How High The Moon”
• “Confirmation”
• “Lady Be Good”
• “Body & Soul”
• “Polka Dots and Moon Beams”

Technical Studies

• At least one chorus of scat improvisation and one chorus of text-based improvisation
• Sing the first eight measure of a ballad a Cappella
• A cappella, wordless chorus of Charlie Parker’s “Confirmation” at 190 bpm or faster
