At the Michigan State University College of Music, every student is valued for the unique skills, personality, and life experiences they bring to our community, and that diversity is celebrated by students who recognize it as a strength. The College encourages, and our students enjoy, learning from one another, respecting different viewpoints, and supporting the efforts and dreams of each individual.

With focus and intention, we have a heightened awareness of social and cultural issues that affect our learning environment, and our students, faculty, staff, and leadership have embraced positive change at every step. Through our Culture Climate and Community Committee, student-led support groups, and cooperative efforts throughout the College, we have implemented curriculum changes that allow for the exploration of a more vibrant musical landscape, empowered engagement throughout our community, and utilized diverse strategies, including a culture of inclusive dialogue, listening, education, engagement, and action.

Our community – students, faculty, and staff alike – participate in ongoing events often featuring expert guest presenters throughout the academic year. These include workshops, listening sessions, joint studio master classes and more. Participation is open to all and provides equal opportunity for anyone interested in ongoing activities and planning.
